In the hearts of men.

Grace Adams - Geography II (2012)

"But beauty, real beauty, ends where an intellectual expression begins. Intellect is in itself a mode of exaggeration, and destroys the harmony of any face. The moment one sits down to think, one becomes all nose, or all forehead, or something horrid. Look at the successful men in any of the learned professions. How perfectly hideous they are! Except, of course, in the Church. But then in the Church they don’t think."

Here the design clearly demonstrates the supremacy of the neoclassical style in the 19th century; the lines are clear and the decoration is restrained; the only elements that still remind us of rococo are the painted decorations over the windows and the few gilded elements. All speaks about the solemn return to a respectful, heroic, distant past of a noble antiquity.

Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.
